Collection: The Lookout at Old Cannery Ranch
AVAILABLE FOR BOOKING NOW!
Exciting news here at the Old Cannery Ranch! The Lookout is finished, and ready for guests! This 560 square foot 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom house offers a clean modern sea ranch vibe and dramatic views of volcanoes Augustine, Iliamna, Redoubt and Spurr. Located on the edge of our high bank waterfront ranch, guests can enjoy taking the bluff trail to visit with our equines and see the summer garden beds and beehives. In winter, bring your backcountry skis or sleds to explore the multi-use Clam Gulch trails directly across the highway. Mushers, snowmachiners, and fat tire bicyclists also use these trails in winter. In summer, bring your ATVs or fishing poles and head down to the Clam Gulch beach, or bring your horses for riding the nearby Falls Creek roads (multi-use) or explore the fabulous Kasilof area Pollard Horse Trail system (maintained by the fabulous Kenai Peninsula Back Country Horsemen Association).

Additional Guest Guidelines and Information:
100% non-smoking property, inside and out. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate dogs and other pets. Please ask us if you are traveling with equines, we may have an option for you. No fish processing is allowed onsite, but we can direct you to local state recreation areas with facilities. Fish must be processed and packaged properly before coming inside or going into the fridge or freezer.
All guests and day visitors must be registered with us; parties are not allowed. Onsite events need to be arranged. No open flames inside or out; bluff wildfires are the worst, and our property can be windy—which is great for keeping the mosquitos at bay (we enjoy more bug-free outdoor living than much of Alaska).
We require guests to cook particularly greasy or smoky foods like bacon or fried fish outside on the grill, which has a flat top and a cast iron skillet. Any residual cooking odors or grease inside the Lookout will result in an additional cleaning fee or damage charge. Please use the range hood fan, and clean up spills on the cooktop immediately. Any use of the oven must be responsible; cover your foods and put pans underneath. Do not cook food directly on the rack. If the oven requires deep cleaning after your stay, you will be charged an additional fee.
Guests are required to follow our cleaning product guidelines. It is all brand new, let's work together to keep it nice for others to enjoy! No abrasive pads or outside cleaning products please (this includes dish soap and laundry soap). No scented sprays, air fresheners, plug-ins, fabric sprays, etc. out of courtesy to guests coming after you who may be sensitive to the chemicals in these products. Soft rags and water / dish soap cleans most spills.
The Lookout is brand new construction (2024-2025) and the landscaping is still a work in progress. Spring and early summer 2025 visitors can expect to see some outside areas under cleanup and construction, as we prepare to install our demonstration garden of local plant species around the Lookout.
This unit has a 750 gallon water cistern and a 55 gallon hot water tank. We refill the cistern weekly, but please be respectful of your water usage if you choose to book with us. Extremely long showers may require time between to wait for the hot water to recharge. We have a small capacity high-efficiency laundry center available in the unit for guests to use. We launder all bedding between guests, every time.
We are conveniently located off the Sterling Highway. While the Lookout is tucked back from the road with a private feel, you can faintly hear passing cars along with the waves from the beach below when the tide is right and the winds are up. The driveway is circular and can accommodate multiple vehicles and trailers. Please let us know if you will be driving anything very large, so we can set you up for success.
